I wasn't going to read this book. I had already read the second and third in the series and I had a fair idea of how this one was going to go.
But then I remembered how much I liked the other two so I gave this one a shot, and I'm not sorry I did.
Elsie's life didn't quite go like she planned. She was going to make it big, and do "something" with her life. Instead, she married a farmer and stayed in a small town. But she has bigger plans for her daughter - plans to see her break away like Elsie was never able to do.
But Elsie's daughter has her own plans, including entering her mom in a "Proverbs 31 Woman" pageant. Through the pageant process, and through relationships with women around her, Elsie starts to see her life - and God - in a new way.
As I said, I was glad I went ahead and read this. I prefer the second and third books to this one - I liked their protagonists better - but the whole series was very good. I am strongly thinking about buying the whole set so I can read them whenever I want to spend a few hours in Pritchett, Wisconsin again.

I am a lover of books; I can't get enough of them. Come check out my recommendations for readers of all ages! I hope you find some new reading treasures for you and your family here. Three star books are good, four star books are great, five star books are outstanding. In general, if I didn't like it, I don't even blog about it. Recommendations are based on my personal opinions, and cautions are listed for the sake of sensitive and/or younger readers.

FRIDAY: Prince Charming List
This is the third in a series and I reviewed the second book last week. I think this one was my favorite of the two that I have read. (And I blew off my bedtime to finish the other one, so that is saying something!)
In this portion of the series, Heather, a young woman in her early twenties takes center stage in Prichett, Wisconsin. She is looking for her place in her family and her place in Prichett, and she is wondering how she should use the life God has given her.
I immediately fell back into step with the characters from the other book - they were familiar and just as fun as before. I adored Heather - what a great, spunky protagonist! I loved the difference she was making in the community. I would read the books in this series again.

FRIDAY: Picket Fence Promises
I hate reading a series out of order, but I didn't realize this was the second book in the series until I was a few chapters in. I haven't yet gotten the first book, but I was able to move forward with this story without trouble.
Bernice is finding her place in the small town of Prichett, Wisconsin when an old flame turns up and decides to stick around. This forces Bernice to face some things about herself and about her past.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and the way the community takes care of their own. The fact that everything turns out in the end (even with the secondary story lines) is pretty unrealistic but I read fiction for a reason - sometimes "realistic" is over-rated. A few weeks ago I said that I was pretty critical and cautious when it comes to Christian fiction. Sometimes it is too trite, too neat, or the story lines too overdone. I found this story and the writer's voice completely delightful and engaging; I couldn't put it down.
Check out this series.

Waiting on WEDNESDAY
These are two library books that I have in my bag to read some time soon. Prince Charming List starts with "I caught the bridal bouquet." Already I am intrigued.
I am pretty hard to please when it comes to Christian fiction. I like the concept but not always the execution. I have high hopes for these books.
