Waiting on WEDNESDAY

I have bags of books that I want to read this summer. These are books I've picked up for the school library, but I haven't read yet. I'd really like to read through them before I put them in the catalog. I have this fear that I'm going to put something in the library and find out after the fact that it isn't appropriate for my age group. I'm especially looking for some books for my oldest students - stories that acknowledge their age and maturity and interests but are still age appropriate. I'm hoping for lots of reading time this summer!

I recently picked up two books for my Nook color - A. J. Jacobs's new book, Drop Dead Healthy and  Buried in Buttercream by G. A. McKevett. I've done so little reading lately of books for adults that I am especially looking forward to reading these soon!

Copycat Killing ~ Kelly (the latest in the magical cats mystery series)

The Accused (Theodore Boone) ~ Grisham (third in a mystery series for kids by John Grisham)

Operation Trinity (39 Clues) A stand alone novel in the 39 Clue series providing back story on various characters

Puzzler's Mansion (Winston Breen) ~ Berlin (latest in a fun series for kids with puzzles to solve along with the main character

Waiting on WEDNESDAY: May New Releases, part 1

May is just around the corner and that means new books!

Here are a few titles I'll be looking for this month:

The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan (third and final book, I think, in the Kane Chronicles series)

Pete the Cat - Four Groovy Buttons (I love Pete's picture books. The first two were a big hit with my students)

The Bell Bandit - Davies (comes after The Lemonade War and The Lemonade Crime)

Hero's Guide to Saving your Kingdom - Healy (super excited about this one! Four princes, rejected by their famous princesses, discover an evil plot and work to save their kingdoms)

What Could Possibly Go Wrong (Big Nate book of comic strips)

Insurgent - Roth (sequel to Divergent, a popular dystopian novel for teens)

My favorite series for adults is a sci-fi/romance series by Gini Koch. The next book in the series comes out on April 3rd.

I tried to win an advance reader's copy but I missed out, so I have to wait with everyone else to get my copy. But I guarantee that I will spend that whole day reading. Good thing it releases during Spring Break!

Waiting on WEDNESDAY: Sci Fi

My favorite way to spend my day off from work is wandering, alone, around the bookstore with no agenda. I can take my time, look at sections I don't usually frequent, etc.


On a recent trip, I was in the mood for some new science fiction/fantasy. These are the books I picked up. Looking forward to digging into these, hoping I'll find some new series to enjoy.

At the beginning of the year I set aside books from my To Be Read (TBR) shelves that I wanted to focus on this year - one nonfiction, one general fiction, one kids book and one series on which I was behind.


This is my set for February. Unfortunately, I still haven't finished January's yet! But I'm not giving up. I hope to catch up on my reading soon. Maybe the long weekend coming up will help me out!

Waiting on WEDNESDAY: Never Say Genius

Book #2 of Dan Gutman's Genius Files series, Never Say Genius, released yesterday. This is the book I am going to read next. You can go here to see the cover art and read some of the beginning. My students and I really enjoyed the first adventure, and from everything I have seen online, this one will be fantastic (they start in Wisconsin and eat cheese curds!).

Waiting on WEDNESDAY: The Future of Us

I have been reading a lot about this book lately and can't wait to dig into it. It's about a couple kids in 1996 getting an AOL install disc and finding Facebook on the internet, showing themselves 15 years in the future. 

I have it from the library and I'm just waiting to get a handle on the re-start of the school year so I can enjoy it. Hope to post a review soon!

I didn't really set any goals for 2012, but I did pull a pile of books from my shelves of TBRs (to be read). I set aside 12 non-fiction books, 12 kids books, 12 general fiction books and then books from 12 series I've been reading but haven't kept up with. Here are my January choices:

Waiting on WEDNESDAY: Cabin Fever by Jeff Kinney

My students are anxiously awaiting the arrival of Cabin Fever, the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid book by Jeff Kinney. While I am not a personal fan of the series, I can't keep them on the library shelves. I am definitely a fan of anything that gets kids reading like that!


Cabin Fever hits bookshelves on Tuesday, November 15th.
