MISSION TO MURDER by Lynn Cahoon

Mission to Murder (Tourist Trap Mystery Series #2)

Jill has a lot going on in her life. Her business neighbor is a huge pain in the business community. The mayor's wife hates Jill just as much as her husband does. A friend's creepy boyfriend leers at her and makes crude suggestions every time she sees him (but the girlfriend blames Jill). Her aunt has planned a secret author event at Jill's store. And another business owner is challenging Jill's claim of an historic site on her property. It's a lot to juggle! As if all that isn't enough, one of her foes turns up dead after two arguments with Jill - she is suspect number one! Anyone who really knows her knows she'd never o that - but she's going to have to dig up the truth before she ends up in jail.

Such a lovely, comfortable read - great, familiar characters (even after several months between books). Nice balance of protectiveness and collaboration between Jill and the police chief boyfriend, Greg. The mystery kept me guessing, and the solution was satisfying. I am looking forward to the next book in the series! Thanks to Kensington publishers for an electronic copy of this book for review purposes.

4 out of 5 stars.

READING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SUMMER - ADULTS

I am up to my eyebrows in school things in order to wrap up the school year, so I'm going to do some list-posting for the next couple weeks to get me through the transition from school to summer. I hope you'll find some great titles that you might want to enjoy this summer. I'll see you in a couple weeks with new reviews!

FAVORITES YOU MIGHT ENJOY THIS SUMMER

Here are some books I have really enjoyed that you might want to check out this summer.
Guidebook to Murder
Guidebook to Murder - a great mystery! I haven't rated a mystery 5-stars for a long time, but this one qualified. You can read my review here.

18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done
18 Minutes - a surprisingly good book about time management. If you are looking to make some improvements in your time management, you should check this one out. You can read my review here.

Touched by an Alien: Alien Novels, Book One
Touched by an Alien - This is my go to adult series. I will re-read this one at least twice a year (before a new book release) and sometimes just for "comfort reading." There is some language and adult situations, so if that will bother you, you might want to try one of my other suggestions. But if you love funny science-fiction/romance, you need to run out and pick up the first book in this great series. You can read my review here.

These next two are books I am hoping to read this summer. A friend recommended them and I am looking forward to reading both of them!

GUIDEBOOK TO MURDER by Lynn Cahoon

Guidebook to Murder

Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books and More in South Cove, California, inherits a house and a load of problems when a dear friend dies suddenly. When the death turns out to be murder and Jill's best friend disappears, things get even more dicey. Then vandalism and death threats amp up the tension even more. A hunky police detective may not be enough to keep Jill safe with all the trouble heading her way.

This was excellent! Great characters and lots of plot points, but everything is easily followed. The plot never felt over-done or contrived - everything worked together. My only "criticism" is that there wasn't much of a "tourist trap" feel in this volume to make the series title make sense, but that may evolve as the series grows. This was a solid and satisfying mystery!

5 out of 5 stars

Book 2 will be Mission to Murder. Right now, only e-book versions are showing up at Barnes&Noble or Amazon online.
