TIGER TALES: One Windy Day (board book) by Tammi Salzano

It's TIGER TALES season again at Bring on the Books. The publisher graciously provided review copies of their fall releases. This fall, there were a LOT of books, so you'll be reading about those for the next couple weeks of posts. I hope you find some you like - I usually find some I want to give for Christmas gifts!

One Windy Day is a board book for fall. The bulk of the words are likely on the sight words list for any kindergarten classroom - up, down, light, dark, etc. The pictures show a mail carrier chasing down mail on a windy day. Cute illustrations including coppery colored foil leaves on every page (and the padded covers). Beautiful book for little pre-readers with fall birthdays or for Halloween gifts.

TIGER TALES: Truck Party by Tammi Salzano

Different types of trucks throw a surprise party for Little Truck. Cartoon illustrations of various types of trucks. Fun read along will appeal to little truck fans. I know my son would have loved this book back in his board book days.

TIGER TALES WEEK: The Ice Cream King and One Little Blueberry

Summary 
The Ice Cream King: A boy and his mother, sketched in muted colors, stop for an ice cream treat where the boy, Teddy, feels like an ice cream king because he can have anything he wants. After awhile, though, he realizes what he really wants is something he can share.


One Little Blueberry: Heavy-weight paper book - not quite a board book. A counting book where bugs chase a blueberry. In the end, though, their lunch plans are thwarted.

Review

Both books are nicely done and good for their target audience. I did have some trouble in The Ice Cream King following the transition from reality to the ice cream dream the first time I read this. I actually went back to see if I had skipped a page. The pictures of the boy enjoying the ice cream possibilities are a lot of fun and can prompt some interesting discussion about what readers would do if they were an ice cream king or queen.


3 out of 5 stars for both books

Recommended for: children under 8, library story times, classroom story times, discussions on sharing. Ice Cream would also be good with a cold summer treat. Blueberry would be good for bug lovers and also for folks looking for a counting book.

TIGER TALES WEEK: One Rainy Day and Rock-a-bye Baby

Summary 
Both of these are board books with padded covers and metallic accents/flocking on the covers and some pages.


One Rainy Day: While Duck enjoys a rainy day, little readers will learn their colors - from red boots to brown mud to yellow flowers.


Rock-a-bye Baby: beautiful illustrations accompany the classic text.

Review

Both of these books are very nice books for babies and toddlers. One Rainy Day  would make a good book to stick in a diaper bag for distractions during car rides or diaper changes or church services. Rock-a-bye has gorgeous illustrations that make it a beautiful baby gift.

MONDAY: One Snowy Day

 A penguin gets dressed for a snowy day with friends in this counting book. It includes all the snow day classics - snow angels, snowball fights, sledding, snowmen and hot cocoa.

A squishy-covered board book with soft, fuzzy looking illustrations and silver metallic snowflakes is beautiful to flip through. Sweet illustrations and snowy theme make this a timely book for the Christmas season for the youngest children on your gift list this year.
