TIGER TALES Week: At the Boardwalk AND Bustle in the Bushes

Rhyming book with gorgeous pictures of people enjoying a day at the boardwalk. Simple story idea with rich pictures that give readers lots to look at. 3 out of 5 stars.

Rhyming book about bugs. Each page focuses on a bug - snail, slug, worm, etc. Great rhythm in the text, great color in the illustrations. The bugs look cute rather than creepy. Good addition to others in the "series" - Commotion in the Ocean and Rumble in the Jungle. 4 out of 5 stars. No AR level yet.

TIGER TALES WEEK: Commotion in the Ocean and Rumble in the Jungle

Summary
Fun, snappy poems for different ocean and jungle animals. Ocean includes animals from crabs to barnacles to polar bears. Jungle includes animals from chimps to zebras to gazelles.

Review

Clever, well done rhyming books. The final poem in Oceans didn't quite match the rhythm and charm of the rest of the book. I appreciated the levity the author uses to lighten up the reality of the food chain in the wild.
Ocean: 4 out of 5 stars
Jungle: 5 out of 5 stars

Recommended for: children under 6 as well as some older animal lovers. Would be fun for library/bookstore reading times as well as pre-school classroom reading, too.

Cautions: none

MONDAY: ABC Animal Jamboree

I love alphabet books! The alphabet is a great framework for a "story" or information you want to share. I received this one as a review copy from the publisher, Tiger Tales, and found it to be a delightful addition to any ABC book collection.

The theme is animals, obviously - a favorite topic for children. The text is rhyming, which makes it fun to read aloud. The book has fabulous personality, too - predators grin about gobbling and pretty animals show off their pride. The pages are rich in color. It is also a fantastic example for students creating their own writing projects.

We loved ABC Animal Jamboree at our house!
