TIGER TALES: Don't Worry, Douglas by David Melling

Douglas' dad gives him a special wooly hat, but after playing outside, it is no longer a hat but just one long string. Douglas doesn't know what to do and he worries how his dad will react

This is a story of great love between Douglas and his dad. Douglas is sweet and his situation - and his worries - are realistic. I think kids will relate to Douglas and his predicament. Dad's response is appropriate. Don't Worry, Douglas will open up discussion at home or in the classroom about honesty, mistakes, and forgiveness.

In a side note, the sheep, who aren't really even part of the text of the story, are a riot! They are my favorite part of the illustrations. Pre-readers will enjoy looking at all the sheep are up to.

MONDAY: Hugless Douglas

Another winner from Tiger Tales! You can tell from the cover art how darling this book is going to be.

Douglas the bear wakes up one morning in need of a hug. He searches all over for just the right one, but the boulder was too heavy, the tree gave him splinters, and the bush ran away!

Thankfully, a helpful bunny leads Douglas to the perfect hug.

Sweet story - good for Mother's Day, new moms and babies, and kids who like to giggle at their books. The illustrations are fantastic - my favorites are the bunny and sheep ones at the end, showing types of hugs, and the title page picture of the bunny trying to block out the snoring. Great, FUN story - and a great price for a picture book.
