RECOMMENDATIONS WEEK - Day 3

My Writing Club students LOVED Chester this year, and I have been recommending his books to a lot of folks in the market for some good picture books.

Another favorite right now is Is Your Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten? which is one of my favorite picture books of 2010.

MONDAY: Chester's Masterpiece

The latest volume with Chester and his red marker battling with his creator, Melanie Watt, is a winner!

This time Chester has hidden all of Melanie's supplies so he can write his very own story. Chester not only antagonizes Melanie over the right to write the story, but he also gets to learn some things about how to properly craft a story (thanks to Melanie's yellow sticky notes).

We LOVE Chester. My son loves Chester. My Writing Club students love Chester. I love the attention to detail - even the cover copy and copyright page have little Chester touches.

MONDAY: Chester

I love Chester! Love him! And I just found out he has a second book. I have it on hold at the library, and can't wait to see it.

Chester the cat wants his own book, even if he has to hijack one with a red marker to make it his own. Chester and the author fight back and forth over the pages as she attempts to write her story and Chester tries to take it over. So clever! For student writers, Chester is a great example of voice. The 4-8 range is perfect for this book because those kids are just old enough to get what is going on in the story. This book is a gem!
