MONDAY: The Lost Hero

Summary
There is a new prophecy for the demi-gods - children of the Greek gods and mortals.
Seven half-bloods shall answer the call,
To storm or fire the world must fall.
An oath to keep with a final breath,
And foes bear arms to the Doors of Death.

While Camp Half Blood is wondering where Percy Jackson disappeared to, three new half-bloods are starting their own adventure. Jason wakes up on a school bus with no memory of who he is or of his life before that moment. His "best friends" are Piper and Leo, other demi-gods with secrets of their own. They are rescued by Annabeth and taken back to camp where questions about their past - and their future - consume the camp until three heroes embark on their adventure.

This story includes new gods and goddesses, new villains, mechanical dragons, giants, as well as old friends from the previous series. Fans of Percy Jackson will be pleased to know that Percy's fate is hinted at throughout the book, and seems likely to be the core of the second book in the series.

Here is a video about the new series. Here is the series website.

Review

Absolutely LOVED this book. It was hard to put down. Riordan does a great job of doling out information while holding enough back to keep the reader turning pages. The characters are wonderful - I enjoyed watching them discover their place in the "mythology," wrestle with their personal demons and make a choice between temptation and loyalty to one another. Fantastic story, fantastic start to a new series. We will be buying every book in the new series the week it debuts!

5 out of 5 stars

Recommended for: children 4th grade and older (some younger readers will enjoy it, too), fans of classic fantasy/hero stories (Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Narnia, etc.)
